Richard is a passionate organic farmer and handles the reins of our farm skillfully. The welfare of our animals is dear to his heart. He was able to widen his knowledge of the farm, forest and fields with his training as qualified agriclutural worker, but his apprenticeship as carpenter is also of great use. In summer Richard enjoys working at the farm's own alpine hut and takes guests on sunrise hikes. These are a real highlight for everyone! As a passionate schnaps distiller he always has something "high proof" for the peak and invites guests to take a "tipple". When he's not busy with farm work Richard loves climbing the peaks in the Grossarl Valley with his family. In winter you'll find the sporty farmer on the local cross country trails and ski slopes. He's jolly chap, who loves meeting up with guests in the garden for a chat when he's finished with his work.
Barbara is the first person to greet you on arrival at our organic farm. She is receptionist, cook, guest guide, farmer's wife, mother etc. and cares for our guests lovingly. As an agricultural student at the BOKU in Vienna farm produce is of great importance to her. The farmer's wife prepares her home-made produce with a lot of care and spoils guests at the breakfast buffet with home-made quark, cottage cheese, jams, juices, liver paté... etc. Her teas, creams and tinctures are all made from local herbs and have relieved much pain. If there's time Barbara loves to sing, run and hike. Or she looks after her favourite farm animals: the hens and the cockerel. The boys keep Mum & Dad on their toes. They'd prefer to spend the whole day outdoors surrounded by nature, in the playground or at the alpine hut. There they build dams, observe insects and play hide & seek - they're not short of ideas. The best thing is, all three of them share our enthusiasm for farming and are keen to help around the farm. As is the case amongst brothers, they don't always agree on everything. And that's the case with their favourite animals: Georg likes Gundi the cow best, Paul's darling is Fritzi the cat and Kilian is particularly fond of Susi the calf. Georg, Paul and Kilian look forward to new playmates holidaying with us on the farm.
Johanna, our youngest child here on the Aubauern Farm, twists young and old around her little finger with her charm. We lovingly call her our "little robber". Our sweetie is in love with Friedrich the rabbit.
The "Gut Au" was first documented in 1293. Otto von Goldeck sold his "Gut Au" to the Archbishop Konrad. From 1807 to 1857 the Rohrer Family ran the farm. Due to a heavy storm the Augraben river burst its banks and flooded the best field. The cowherd and the whole cattle died. The owner family had no savings and sold the farm in 1857 to Johann Gruber, Maixner farmer. Later the farm was given to the only daughter Genoveva Rieser and her husband Balthasar. The only son from this marriage died in the First World War. The couple took in three foster children. Rupert Andreas Lainer, our Grandpa, took over the farm in 1966 and ran it with our Grandma Greti until 2001. In 1995 the youngest son Richard rented the farm and switched to organic farming. 6 years later he took over the farm from his parents and now we two, Richard and Barbara Lainer have been running the farm since 2008. In future we will give it to one of our children.
